My Statement
My Name is Yingsel
I am a Tibetan Antelope.
I am known as YingYing in China and I was chosen to be one of the mascots for the 2008 Olympic Games.
I am announcing today that I have left the Chinese Olympic Team.
I can no longer stand to be used as a tool of propaganda by the Chinese government. It has been using me to cover up its violent and brutal oppression inside Tibet.
The Chinese authorities hope that by including me, a Tibetan antelope, in their public relations around the 2008 Olympics, that they can fool the outside world into thinking that Tibet is a part of China and that Tibetans are happy and prosperous under Chinese occupation.
China hopes a successful Beijing Games will mask the true nature of their authoritarian rule.
I’ve gone into hiding because it is not possible for me to speak out against the Chinese government safely as there is no freedom of speech in Tibet or China.
I call on all Tibetan antelopes, Tibetan people, friends, supporters and governments of the world to help me in my quest to restore human rights and freedom in Tibet.
Bod Rangzen. Tibet will be free.

Dear Yingsel, great to see you decided not to participate as a mascot for the Chinese Olympics. They really haven’t treated you so nice, and it is always good to see people stand up for themselves against aggressive abusers. Good move and I hope all else goes well.
As far as the world we’ve left you. I’m sorry. It’s a real mess. People are trying to clean it up a bit, but those in charge, with the weapons, and full of money are a real competent adversary. It ain’t easy. We think they are polluting the Planet to unprecedent levels and aren’t planning on stopping. They also resist any calls to curb their evil ways. We think that most wars are avoidable and that the majority of the population would love to live in peace, yet most aren’t educated enough, have the amound of free time, or the courage to get politically active and fight for their rights as humans. That’s why things like the bombings of the World Trade Centers in New York are so popular. They motivate a generally passive audience to support wars that our leaders desire and profit from. The sadness is almost unbearable, yet we strive on and do succeed from time to time at accomplishing small feats of victory. Hopefully in the future we can make it possible for you to roam again freely in your homeland of Tibet. It sure is a great place to be, and your history is mind boggling. Take it easy old boy and don’t forget to get your nourishment as often as possible. We’re in it for the long haul. Amen brother. Amen.
Peace.
Orangutan.

Yingsel,
I am so sorry to hear how badly you have been treated. I know the wonderful people at SFT will take good care of you now.
The Chinese government is trying to fool the world with their happy face of the Olympics, but many of us know the angry face they direct to Tibet and to Sudan’s western province of Darfur. As more and more people hear your story, maybe they too will recognize this angry face.
Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help you.
Thank you for sharing your story and your brave decision to leave the Chinese Olympic team.

dearest sister Yingsel,
I applaud and support your courage and conviction in leaving the group of Chinese mascots. I felt certain that you were never a willing participant as a representative of China, but a tool used by that country for political purposes, just as Tibet has been unconscionably used for its land and its resources.
There are many of us who will wholeheartedly work for you and with you, for the vision of a free Tibet for all its indigenous animals and people. May Tibet soon be free.
namaste,
Pema

Dear Yingsel, I believe, that the Olympics 2008 will make the whole world focus on the Chinese violence and cruelty. I do believe that Tybet will be free and that what you do together with SFT is NOT pointless. I support you with all of my heart. Keep on fighting, though the risk is so high.

Dear Yingsel,
I do not know how things are going with you right now but I hope and pray that you are safe and secure. The path you have chosen to take is one teemed with perilous uncertainties yet I believe in the depth of my heart that you will come out of this unscathed. Your courage and determination has many emboldened and the passion of our beleaguered nation rekindled. Thanking you is simply not enough for it fails to offset the gravity of your endeavor, so I will refrain, but please be known that you have now become an indelible part of my every day prayers.

Belgium let not come the dalai lama for the second time. We need our spirituel leaders. Poor people can not come to nepal or so. We need our initiations. 10.000 white tibetans don’t agree. I will not vote the 10th juin. This is what i decided.
And you are right. Chinese olympics are not tibetans olympics.

I applaud you’re courage. defecting from being a mascot under an illegal and suppressive regime seems like a small thing to do but very courageous in it own way. remember to keep your struggle on(peacefully). You have truth on your side and the support of millions around the world, and countless others to come.
