An Introduction

Posted May 10th, 2007 by yingsel

Dear Friends and Supporters of Tibet,

My name is Yingsel. I am a Tibetan antelope. I was one of the mascots for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. But I’ve defected from the Olympic team because I can no longer stand being used as a puppet to cover up China’s destruction of my homeland.

We are facing extinction. Before the Chinese came to Tibet there were a million antelopes; now there are barely 75,000! Poachers kill us for our soft wool, used to make shawls. We’re an endangered species — but Beijing doesn’t do enough to protect us.

I am busily working underground - organizing and networking to use the Olympics to turn the tables on China.

If you need to reach me, please contact the staff at Students for a Free Tibet HQ. They have been helping me plan my struggle. They will be distributing flyers and stickers with my messages, designing children’s books to tell my story, and doing my public relations work too.

Please make a donation to SFT today and help me in my quest for justice and freedom.

Bhod Rangzen! Free Tibet

China really thinks it can get away with what it is doing. But the world can see through their waxy smiles and dodgy Communist haircuts, badly-made products and fluffy propaganda bunnies. It is only a matter of time before justice is served - however other governments of the world who supposedly support ‘freedom’ and ‘justice’ and ‘human rights’ should not delay this, nor should they bend over and let the Chinese walk all over them. After all, on issues of ‘internal affairs’, China tells the rest of the world to ‘f**k off’, so let our governments tell those stinky Communists to ‘f**ck off yourselves!’

    Yingsel Nonsense:

As a serious activist for Tibetan freedom, I feel myself quite concerned about the unproductive detour SFFT has taken with the antelope fantasy.

The anthrpomorphic rendering of a Tibetan antelope has put off many of the people I have spoken with and many serious activists seem to think this idea has been brought to fruition by silly teenage schoolgirls.

I think the Chinese delight in nonserious detours of fantasy such as this instead of hard-hitting actions. I voted for one member of the Board and I have no idea if that person supported the antelope fantasy. I am in favor of throwing out all those board members who supported this idea in favor of some soberminded political organizers who will pick an issue about the 2008 Olympics that will make the rest of the world think about the Tibetans plight .

    Yingsel, we support you!

Be careful, remember that showing the tibetan flag you are carrying is highly illegal in China and they could put you in jail for many years.

There are so few antelopes left in Tibet since China has not protected you, but cut your forests and destroyed your habitat,
    we need everyone of you!

    Best wishes,
    Yingsel fan
